Microsoft Announces Windows 7 Downgrade Options

Windows

Microsoft has announced that they will be giving hardware manufacturers the ability to give their customers the option to "downgrade" to either Windows Vista or XP. Even though every review of Windows 7 has been putting it in good light, there will always be some who will prefer to use XP or even Vista for one reason or another. The time frame that they will still offer XP has not been specified, but it shouldn't be for too long (although, it's been extended several times in the last couple of years!). Main stream support for Windows XP is expected to end on April 14th. Microsoft will only provide security updates for Windows XP after that date.

Full Length Sony Films May Come to YouTube

YouTube is undeniably the king of user contributed video websites, but they are way behind in the avenue of presenting legal copyrighted videos supported by ad revenue. The company wishes to change this and are currently in talks with Sony Pictures to put full length films on the website which will be supported by advertisements. Considering the giant audience that YouTube already has, this may be a good move for both parties. Hopefully, if this deal goes through, other movie studios may follow in Sony's footsteps.

Customizing Auto-Correct in Microsoft Word
Microsoft's Word has various tools which can make life easier. One of the more overlooked tools is the ability to customize Auto-Correct. Auto-correct can take a short phrase and turn it into something larger. For example you can type "dur" and hit the space bar and "Durham" will show up. This can be very convenient if you don't feel like typing out your e-mail signature, your full address, or whatever you want really. You can use a few keystrokes to create entire paragraphs of frequently typed text.

TVs and PCs May Soon Work Similar to Wii
Gadgets utilizing motion gestures and touch screens have become increasingly popular in the past couple of years. Wii consoles have sold more than any of its competitors, and iPhones are the most popular smart phones. Hitachi plans to be the first television manufacturer to support gestures in their television sets, starting next year, as part of an effort to reach people who are put off by increasingly complex gadgets. You can't get much simpler than simply having to move your hand to perform functions. One of the biggest breakthroughs in this technology are digital cameras that can actually sense how far away an object is and focus correctly as it interprets the object's movements. At the moment, these technologies are expensive, but within the next year or so, they are expected to drop to acceptable levels for average consumers.
