New Age of Wireless Internet in 2009
In 2009 all television broadcasters will have to start using digital signals, leaving the current UHF spectrum available. The FCC has authorized the "white space" to be used by low power consumer electronics. The United States is actually lagging behind in availability of broadband access in comparison to other countries around the globe. A broadband wireless internet service broadcasted on this spectrum would give many rural areas broadband access for the first time. WiMax is one of the services which may use the new spectrum and is already being built into laptops by many manufacturers. The new services won't be available until February 18, 2009.
