iTunes going DRM Free |
 |
|
Digital Rights Management (DRM) has been giving consumers grief for quite some time. DRM restricts what you can do with the digital media that you purchase. For iTunes, you can only play your music in iTunes and on iPods. Apple has finally decided to start lifting these restrictions on their catalogue. Along with some price changes. Songs will now range from $0.69 to $1.29 from the current flat rate of $0.99 per song. Other services, such as Rhapsody, have provided all of their music without DRM for quite some time and have grown in popularity. As usual, Apple is slow responding to market demands, but it is good news for iTunes clients. |

Windows XP to Continue Selling Through May 09 |
 |
|
Windows XP was originally supposed to disappear in early 2008 to make way for Vista. This deadline has constantly been pushed back. While you can't buy copies of XP on retail shelves, you can order a computer with it preloaded from Dell, HP, etc. until May of 2009. This extends till the period to around the Windows 7 proposed release date. With luck, that will allow users to skip Windows Vista adoption altogether. |

Consumer Electronics Show 2009
The Consumer Electronics Show kicked off in Las Vegas a few days ago. There were all sorts of cool new technologies introduced & unveiled.
For example, LG has a new touch screen wristwatch phone that is compatible with 3G networks - like Dick Tracy had in the 40's. That only took 50 years to become reality.
Lenovo has a dual monitor laptop where a second monitor is built in and actually slides out the side of the normal screen.
Steve Ballmer announced the release of Windows 7 Beta 1 to the public. Ballmer also spoke about how he believes the future relies on plans to make TV's function more like as PC's in your living room (wow, such a visionary...).
Other gadgets shown off at the show included a handheld projector and wireless electricity.
To check out more of the upcoming technologies check out this website or www.cesweb.org. |
