Windows 7 Details Begin to Surface |
Since Windows Vista isn't the most popular kid on the block (somewhat of an understatement); Microsoft is working hard to deliver their next version of Windows to hopefully appease the (angry) masses. They recently unveiled their "multitouch" screen feature. A video of some of the new "features" can be viewed here. They are expounding better backwards compatibility to run older programs by running them in some sort of "virtual" mode, which allows Windows 7 to run in the manner it requires while loading features from old versions when necessary. The goal is to make the same PC run faster with Windows 7 than it would with Vista. Thus, the two major complaints about Vista (speed and compatibility) will allegedly be resolved. Whether it will achieve these lofty goals won't be known until its release scheduled for late 2009 to early 2010. With their previous track record for meeting release dates, I wouldn't hold my breath... |

Low Cost, Ultra-Portable Laptop Craze
Just over a year ago Asus unveiled their Eee PC laptop line which featured laptops with prices starting around $400. They featured smaller screens (about 8 inches) and were meant to do simple tasks like surf the net, run office programs, etc. Now almost every company is about to release their own versions of the low cost laptop. These companies include Dell, HP, Sony, VIA, AMD, and MSI just to name a few. With all this competition to make ultra-portable laptops priced around $400 to $600, good things are sure to come. The first Asus Eee PC's ran Linux and weren't exactly the fastest machines. All of the new ultra-portable laptops feature Windows XP or Vista, at least 1GB of ram, larger hard drives (40 to 80 GB), solid state hard drives, and faster processors. Some machines are already available (Asus Eee PC, MSI Wind) while others are set to be available within the next few months. |
