Microsoft May "Go Hostile" to Acquire Yahoo
Microsoft

Microsoft had given Yahoo until last Saturday to come to the negotiating table to reach a friendly agreement. Since Yahoo allowed the "deadline" to pass, there is speculation that Microsoft plans to approach shareholders directly to try to purchase the company from under the board. The key factor is, of course, price. Steve Ballmer of Microsoft says that he has a price in mind, which he doesn't plan to pay "a dime above." Yahoo's shareholders were not pleased the last time Yahoo rejected Microsoft's bid. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. You can read more about this issue here.

PC Makers to Sell XP after June Deadline
Microsoft placed the deadline for June 30, 2008 as the last date that XP would be sold. Dell and HP are exploiting a clause which allows purchasers of Vista Business and Ultimate to obtain a "downgrade" license to XP. So the sale will count as Vista for Microsoft but you will receive a license for XP Professional. Lenovo is including XP Recovery Discs with some Vista based machines, which would allow users to switch to XP if they so please. Perhaps this demand for continued sales of XP will convince Microsoft to extend the deadline. Vista is not being embraced by the Corporate world for various reasons including necessary hardware upgrades and compatibility issues. Microsoft has announced the next version of Windows dubbed "Windows 7" is to be released in 2010. Perhaps Vista will be "swept under the rug" much like Microsoft's previous ugly-duckling, Windows ME which seemed to magically (& thankfully) disappear.
